Shillman House Concludes Week of Service in Honor of MLK
Posted: January 19, 2018

On this Martin Luther King Jr. birthday week, JCHE’s Shillman House celebrated the spirit of service by holding a different charity event each day of the week to help improve our community.
On Tuesday, we set up a collection box for new toiletry that we donated to Jewish Family Service of Metrowest, and to a local shelter.
On Wednesday, staff and residents made dog treats for Buddy Dog--a humane society, shelter and adoption center in Sudbury. Participants made batter from peanut butter, pumpkin, whole wheat flour, and eggs. Then they formed bone-shaped treats and popped them in the oven.
On Thursday, we set up a collection box for white socks for homeless veterans. The importance of clean socks to proper foot care is often overlooked, and our residents were eager to donate to such a worthy cause.
And finally on Friday, we made cards for kids at Boston's Children's hospital, complete with personalized notes from residents.
Thank you to everyone who participated and helped improve our community.
