Porter Street Redevelopment
2Life’s 19 Porter Street Redevelopment project is an amazing opportunity to support aging in community by building 114 apartments of service-enriched housing affordable for seniors in Lynn, Massachusetts. The Thurgood Marshall Middle School building will be replaced with much-needed affordable senior housing and a vibrant set of community resources in this pivotal location, demonstrating our deep experience in developing and managing homes for low-income seniors.
Site features
The Porter Street Redevelopment project is located just four miles away from 2Life’s Solimine House project on the grounds of the former Union Hospital, which is next to a newly constructed Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) Center, operated by Element Care. This unique healthcare program is targeted to frail, low-income people age 55 and older and includes community-based health and home care services.
Project features
- The new three-story building will have three “legs” interspersed with courtyards, walking paths, and seating areas designed to maximize the outdoor space and provide ample opportunity for residents to enjoy time outside.
- The building will be highly efficient, sustainable, and resilient (e.g., designed to Passive House standards), bringing improved heath, economic, and environmental benefits to our residents and addressing the important objective of reducing our carbon footprint.
- Surface parking will be located behind the new building and designed to maximize outdoor green space.
- A welcoming residential entry will open to common spaces for both residents and community members. The ground floor Village Center includes flexible spaces for fitness and wellness activities, arts and culture programs, space for communal meals and other community events -- the hallmark of all 2Life communities.
- Apartments are 100% affordable to households with incomes up to 60% Area Median Income, except for two apartments reserved for 24-hour on-call, live-in staff.
- Apartments meet the highest standards of universal design (especially in bathrooms and kitchens) to allow our residents to comfortably remain in their homes as they age and their physical needs change.
