2Life Connect: Inspiring innovation through conversation

2Life Connect | Mission Driven Conversations

Conversations can be transformative. That’s the idea behind a new program called 2Life Connect, which brings together accomplished people to discuss issues around aging—the challenges, joys and opportunities. And it’s being spearheaded by one of the country’s top thought leaders on the subject: 2Life President and CEO Amy Schectman.

Through informal conversations in intimate group settings, 2Life Connect has sparked lively discussions around the model for aging in community that drives 2Life Communities.

“Aging is something we all deal with — whether it’s caring for older parents, thinking about our own future, or as taxpayers and voters. 2Life Connect provides a unique opportunity to have meaningful conversations about how we can all age with health, dignity and joy,” says Schectman. “I’ve enjoyed having opportunities to raise awareness of 2Life’s novel model for aging in community. But I’ve also benefited tremendously from hearing the perspectives of participants in these dynamic conversations.”

To date there have been two 2Life Connect conversations — one virtual, one in person. Catharyn Gildesgame hosted a virtual conversation on the topic, “Resilient, healthy aging in community: What have we learned from our experiences with parents? What does this mean for us?” Participants shared their personal stories of caring for older family members and reflected on the systemic challenges shaping senior housing — including the pros and cons of various options.

“People care deeply about this topic, and they appreciated the opportunity to be in a small group conversation with Amy, who is a national thought leader on aging,” Catharyn says. “It offered a chance to learn more about 2Life, an organization that is actually doing something about it.”

Laura Efron, who hosted a dinner at her home, agrees. “The 2Life Connect dinner was a special experience for all involved. It gave people an opportunity to learn about 2Life, an organization I am so passionate about,” she says. “Everyone was part of the lively conversation, asking questions and engaged in the discussion.”

Given the enthusiasm and continued interest shown by participants, we look forward to hosting more 2Life Connect conversations in the months ahead.
