Matt Brett has nearly 20 years of experience as a commercial real estate attorney. Matt began his law career at Sidley Austin Brown & Wood (now known as Sidley Austin) representing lenders in connection with the origination and securitization of commercial mortgage loans before moving to Schiff Hardin (now known as ArentFox Schiff) where he maintained a comprehensive real estate practice. Prior to 2Life, he focused on affordable housing at Applegate & Thorne-Thomsen, representing developers in using low income housing tax credits, tax exempt bonds, conventional loans, FHA insured loans, accounts receivable financing and various state and local grant programs to finance their facilities, and representing syndicators of low-income housing tax credits in closing tax credit investments. He had significant experience representing developers and operators of affordable assisted living facilities in the acquisition, development, financing, refinancing and operation of such facilities. While at Applegate, he served as the firm’s first risk management partner and on the management committee.
Matt has an undergraduate degree from Duke University and a law degree from Harvard Law School. He lives with his wife and two daughters in Chicago. Outside of work, he coaches youth basketball and leads marriage preparation classes with his wife.
